What is Restylane?
Restylane is a range of injectable fillers with a unique formulation of hyaluronic acid. This naturally occurring substance in the skin works to add volume and hydration. The Restylane line smooths away facial wrinkles and folds, provides subtle lip enhancement, smooths the lines around the mouth, adds lift and volume to the cheeks, and helps reverse the signs of volume loss in the back of the hands. When combined with other treatments such as Botox or Dysport, the results can be even more dramatic and long-lasting.
Benefits
- Improvement in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- Increased volume and fullness in the face and hands
- Enhanced facial contours and features
- Little to no downtime after the treatment
Restylane Products We Use
Restylane can be used to treat a variety of areas and concerns, such as nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and other facial wrinkles. It’s also commonly used for lip augmentation and for adding volume to the cheeks and the back of the hands.
We carry the following Restylane products:
Restylane Original
Treat moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds. Restylane was the first non-animal stabilized HA dermal filler to be approved by the US FDA, and has been used in over 55 million treatments worldwide. Results last typically 6-18 months.
Restylane Refyne
Restylane Refyne is designed to treat moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds. It is made unique by its use of XpresHAn Technology, which softens laugh lines, including nasolabial folds and marionette lines. You can expect the results to last typically between 6 to 12 months.
Restylane Defyne
Restylane Defyne is specially created to smooth out moderate to severe deep facial wrinkles and folds, including nasolabial folds. Like Refyne, Defyne also uses XpresHAn Technology to target deep laugh lines. The effects of the treatment are generally noticeable for around 6 to 12 months.
Restylane Lyft
Formerly known as Perlane, Restylane Lyft is the first and only FDA-approved filler for lifting the cheeks, adding volume to correct and smooth smile lines (nasolabial folds) and enhancing the jawline. It also treats volume loss in the back of the hands. The results of Restylane Lyft are usually visible for 6 to 12 months.
Restylane Contour
Restylane Contour is designed to enhance cheek augmentation and correct midface contour deficiencies in patients over the age of 21. Its uniqueness lies in providing lift and contour to the cheeks. The results typically last between 12 to 18 months.
Restylane Kysse
Restylane Kysse is used for lip augmentation and the correction of upper perioral rhytids (wrinkles around the mouth) in patients over the age of 21. This product adds natural-looking volume and flexibility to the lips with results typically visible for 6 to 12 months.
Restylane Eyelight
Restylane Eyelight is a newer addition to the Restylane family, specifically designed to address the delicate under-eye area. It is formulated to reduce the appearance of dark circles, under-eye hollows, and tired-looking eyes, rejuvenating the entire eye region.
The composition of Restylane Eyelight allows for smooth and natural-looking results, ensuring the under-eye area looks refreshed and revitalized. Typically, the effects of Restylane Eyelight can be seen for approximately 6 to 12 months, depending on individual factors.

Ideal Candidates for Restylane
Ideal candidates for Restylane are men and women aged 21 and older seeking:
- Cheek augmentation
- Correction of midface volume loss
- Deep facial wrinkles and folds correction
- Fine lines around the mouth (upper perioral rhytids) or lip lines
- Loss of volume in the back of the hands
- Nasolabial folds (smile lines)
- Thin or uneven lips (lip augmentation)
It’s important to note that those with severe allergies, bleeding disorders, or skin infections near the injection site should avoid Restylane treatments. A consultation with one of our experts can help determine if Restylane is right for you.
Before & Afters
After Restylane injections, the treatment area will immediately appear fuller and plumper, with fewer fine lines and wrinkles. The complete results will be visible after a few days, once any swelling has subsided.
What to Expect from Your Restylane Session
The process of receiving Restylane dermal fillers at Lockhart Matter Dermatology begins with an initial consultation. During this appointment, you’ll meet with one of our expert practitioners to discuss your aesthetic goals and medical history. The practitioner will evaluate your skin and facial structure and suggest the most appropriate treatment plan for you, which may include Restylane or other injectables to best meet your goals. Once the treatment plan has been agreed upon, we will schedule your first session.
During your dermal filler treatment, Restylane will be precisely injected into targeted areas to add volume and smooth out wrinkles. The procedure is usually quick, typically taking less than an hour, and discomfort is minimal thanks to the anesthetic lidocaine that is included in Restylane.
Recovery & aftercare
Following the injections, you may experience some swelling, redness, pain, bruising, or tenderness. These are typically mild in severity and clear up on their own within a few days. You will see immediate results after the treatment, with the full effect visible after any swelling has subsided.
Your practitioner will schedule follow-up appointments to monitor your progress and ensure that you are healing properly and are happy with your results. Restylane offers long-lasting results, typically between six months and a year, and you can choose to have touch-up treatments to maintain your rejuvenated look.

FAQs
Does Restylane have any side effects?
Yes, like any cosmetic treatment, Restylane may have side effects. These can include swelling, redness, pain, bruising, or tenderness in the treated area. These side effects are generally mild and typically clear up within a week. Serious side effects are rare, but if you experience prolonged redness or discomfort, you should contact your practitioner immediately.
What’s the difference between Restylane and Botox?
Restylane and Botox are both used in cosmetic dermatology, but they work differently. Restylane is a type of dermal filler made from hyaluronic acid, which adds volume to the skin, reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and improves facial contours. Botox, on the other hand, is a neurotoxin that blocks nerve signals in the muscles where it is injected, reducing muscle activity and softening the appearance of wrinkles and lines caused by facial expressions.
Can Restylane replace cosmetic surgery?
Restylane can address a range of aesthetic concerns by restoring volume, smoothing lines, and enhancing facial contours, which may delay or even negate the need for cosmetic surgery for some patients. However, it can’t replace the dramatic and permanent changes achieved through cosmetic surgery. Deciding between Restylane treatments and cosmetic surgery ultimately depends on your aesthetic goals, health, and personal preference. It’s best to discuss these considerations with a board-certified plastic surgeon to make an informed decision.
